460A S. College Ave. is saying goodbye to treadmills and basketball courts, and hello to Target.

The roughly 45,000 square foot building that was once home to a 24-Hour Fitness facility in downtown Fort Collins will soon become the new home of Target, making it its third Fort Collins' store.

According to the Coloradoan, building owner Eric Holsapple said Target is just beginning its renovations but is on track for an October 2021 opening.

He said his company, LC Real Estate, has "done its work" and completed the demolition of basketball courts and swimming pool in the former gym. "We took it back to a vanilla shell" and turned it over to Target last week.

Holsapple expects Target will complete its work in August, allotting a few months to stock the store, hire and train staff.

Target representatives said they would share more details, including how the shopping experience would be tailored to serve local guests, as the grand opening date gets closer.

24-Hour Fitness, the former gym open for just a little over a year, never reopened after closing in March 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic first began. The parent company of the fitness center filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and closed 134 gyms.

The downtown Target will be smaller than its store on Troutman Parkway and at Front Range Village, but will feature a CVS pharmacy, groceries as well as the standard items sold at Target.
