Sean’s Story
I got out of the Air Force about a year ago and have since felt unmotivated to do any sort of physical activity. After daily PTs (Physical Training) I’m not as motivated to workout now that it is no longer a requirement. In fact, I may even resent working out. Now I can really feel that it is affecting my health and well being. I can no longer play soccer, a sport that I love, because I get shin splints due to my weight gain.
I want to be more active and get back into shape. Recently, back in Colorado, my girlfriend and I want to start climbing 14er’s this summer. Dare to Lose will help provide the motivation I need to get into shape.
Kendra’s Story
I have been overweight basically all of my life. I have had motivation issues with all of my failed attempts to lose weight. When I found out about the Dare to Lose Program, I knew that this is the perfect program for me. I know that I can succeed this time and finally lose this extra weight I've been carrying around for so long! My motivation always seems to fizzle out after a few weeks, so I need a mental kick to keep me going and people to keep me accountable for my actions. I think, with all of the scheduled activities and personal training sessions, I will do much better this time.
I recently began participating in 5Ks and I would like to do even more in the months and years to come. This time next year I want to be able to run to in each race without stopping to walk.
Sarah’s Story
I know all the facts about weight loss: “Burn more then you take in,’ “Choose high quality foods” but I don’t put them into practice. I felt that Dare to Lose would be a great way to introduce competition and coloration as a motivator in my own fitness journey.
I'm excited to work with the other members of the North Team (BEAST Mode) to motivate each other toward healthier living. I'm also interested in time effective and efficient ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle with positive nutrition and exercise choices as a busy professional and doctoral student. I want to end the competition with stronger lungs, stronger body, and ready to run in the Bolder Boulder and Denver Rock and Roll Half Marathon.

Jacob’s Story
My fitness journey needs focus! It's easy to stray from a program. Motivation is a key as well. I need motivation. I wanted to join a team in the Dare to Lose program so I can make an impact on both my teammates and myself. We all have a goal to lose weight and we all need someone to push us to the next level. I want to push but also be pushed. I have had 5 knee surgeries. I want to show that even with an ailment, you can workout, exercise, lose weight and be healthy. I don't want to use my knee as a vice.
One year from now, I will be quicker, lighter, have more stamina, and have a completely different look to myself. I do not want to have to hide behind baggy clothes. I value my family and I want to be around long-term for my wife and daughter.
Amanda’s Story
I have been struggling with my weight since I was 17 when I was diagnosed with a thyroid condition called Grave’s Disease. At the time my thyroid was hyper active and I was very thin, and then it was destroyed with radioactive iodine leaving me hypothyroid. Since then, I have gained a significant amount of weight and have had a very difficult time trying to lose it. I’m now 36 and have spent over half my life feeling ashamed of how I look and feeling powerless to do anything about it. I have put so much of my life on hold because of my weight. I can’t take a trip because I’m afraid I won’t fit in the plane seats. I don’t go horseback riding because I’m too big. I haven’t taken my daughter to an amusement park because I’m afraid I’m too big to fit in the rides.
I am a single mother to a 12 year old daughter. She is starting to develop and I worry that my body issues will become her body issues. I want to learn how to be healthier so I can be a good role model for her. I want to be comfortable in my own skin so she will know how to be comfortable in her skin. And most importantly, I want to be healthy, so I can be around for her for as long as possible.
Laurie’s Story
I have always been slightly overweight my whole life, and have been trying to get to a point where I feel the most comfortable, but I haven't quite made it there yet. After completely changing my diet and exercise in 2006, a point at which I had completely let myself go, I lost quite a bit of weight but hit a plateau. After trying to get past the plateau and pushing too hard, I sustained a knee injury that kept recurring every time I would go back to my exercise plan, which made my frustrations grow on my fitness journey. In 2012, I joined a boot camp class three times a week, biked, worked on a farm, taught and attended over 5 yoga classes a week, ate extremely well and although lost 42 total body inches throughout the year, the results were not good enough for me!
I want to figure out where I've gone wrong. With the help of the Dare to Lose trainers and my own perseverance, I know I can achieve optimum health and be in the best shape of my life allowing for me to have complete confidence in who I am! I can and will do this!!
Team #3 - Muscle & Hustle
Competition Just Started - 58.03 Pounds Lost So Far
Rachel’s Story
Little by little I have watched the weight tack on each year. I go through phases where I crash diet or hit the gym only to plateau or give up. With the help of the experts at Miramont I feel like this program will be a great opportunity to learn the right way to adopt healthy habits and what it takes to really see results. My husband and I both applied to the program because I felt it would be a wonderful opportunity for us both to go through the program together, holding each other accountable and pushing each other to become better versions of who we already are today.
Once I get in the habit of going to the gym, I really do enjoy it! It’s the maintenance and learning what levers to pull to see success that I will really benefit from. I know that learning how to continually see results and planning for a healthy lifestyle will be invaluable for me!
Ryan’s Story
I am a food addict. There is no other way to put it. If you put a giant plate of food in front of me, I will finish the plate and then snack on some potato chips for dessert. I need to find a way to curb my appetite with healthier options and find a diet plan that I can stick to for the long run. I honestly think this will be the most difficult part of my journey. The older I get the more I realize that I am not invulnerable like I thought when I was 20.
My fitness plays a huge part in many aspects of my life, from my mental and physical well being to the future of family. When my wife and I started discussing the idea of having children, it became an immediate impetus for me to get off my butt and try to attain a healthier lifestyle. The Dare To Lose program is the perfect way to transition into this new chapter in my life. Becoming healthier and taking part in this program is extremely important to my wife and I know that if I take the journey with her each of those seemingly impossible steps seem a little easier when we take them together.
Keri’s Story
Just a few years ago, I was in the best shape of my life. I was healthy, strong, driven, focused and in love with life. I had prepared myself physically and mentally to have a family. But infertility took my spirit, my body and my life from me. I blamed my body and I just gave up. Even though I felt I was in great shape the doctors told me it was my weight that was keeping me from conceiving. I was heartbroken. What was the point of even trying anymore? I gave up and stopped eating right, I quit working out, and I didn't care anymore.
I am ready to get back on track again but I need help in doing that. I want to make the most of the life that I have with my wonderful husband because, regardless if we have children or not, he’s still my family. I really do love to work out, I love healthy and good foods, but I need help finding that love that I know is within reach and within my body. I long for that feeling of good health again and long to love the body I have.
