Nationwide Cucumber Recall Linked to Salmonella Outbreak
It seems like every other day we're hearing news about some sort of recall or another.
The Center for Disease Control just confirmed that there is a nationwide salmonella outbreak connected to one popular summer vegetable. One of the reported cases is actually connected to Colorado.
Salmonella Cases Reported in Colorado

NPR confirms that the Food and Drug Administration is recalling cucumbers across multiple states following two dozen people falling ill.
What You Need to Know About the Cucumber Recall
The recall is specifically for cucumbers grown by Florida-based Bedner Growers between April 29th and May 19th.
Officials report that the produce company Fresh Start Produce Sales actually distributed this product to retailers nationwide.
This specific incident is being linked to something called a "multistate outbreak" of Salmonella Montevideo.
FDA and CDC Issue Urgent Recall for Florida-Grown Cucumbers
According to the latest report, these cucumbers allegedly made twenty-six people sick, with nine of them having to go to the hospital for medical treatment.
The cases are confirmed in fifteen states including; Alabama, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
Colorado Reports Salmonella Cases Linked to Cucumber Recall
According to the FDA, only 1 to 2 cases have been reported here in Colorado. There is no word on where this outbreak took place within the state.
Symptoms of Salmonella Infection
Salmonella are bacteria that can cause people to get sick with something called salmonellosis.
This bacteria lives in the intestines of people and animals and can be transmitted in multiple ways; through consuming contaminated food, drinking or being in contact with contaminated water, and by touching animal feces, according to the CDC.
According to the Mayo Clinic, if you've recently experienced some of these symptoms, it could be an indicator of salmonella.
- Diarrhea
- Stomach (abdominal) cramps
- Fever
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Chills
- Headache
- Blood in the stool
