
Colorado Is Building One of the World’s Largest Wildlife Crossings on I-25
Have you seen a wildlife crossing in Colorado? They are becoming more of a common sight in the past few decades.
If you have not seen a wildlife crossing, it is essentially a bridge over a highway for animals. The goal of a wildlife crossing is to protect wildlife from being hit by vehicles. Additionally, these wildlife crossings keep Colorado drivers safer as well.

Colorado Is Leading the Nation in Wildlife Crossing Projects
Colorado is becoming one of the nation's leaders in building wildlife crossings. The first one was built in 1996 near Banff National Park.
Colorado is not only becoming one of the nation's leaders, but the Centennial State is putting the final touches on the largest wildlife crossing in the world.
Inside the Greenland Wildlife Overpass on I-25
The Greenland Wildlife Overpass in Douglas County is under construction. This wildlife crossing is huge. According to Douglas County, the wildlife crossing will cover six lanes of I-25 and will create 39,000 acres of land together. The overpass will be 204 feet wide and will cost $15 million.
Connecting Castle Rock to Monument with Safe Wildlife Routes
Colorado's goal is to create wildlife crossing along 18 miles between Castle Rock and Monument. The largest one, The Greenland Wildlife Overpass, will be by far the largest. It is projected to be completed by December 2025. The plan was first announced in 2023 and has taken quite a bit of time to get the ball rolling.
