Bars In Colorado May Stay Open Later And Why I’ll Never Stay Until Closing Time
Bars and nightclubs in Colorado usually stay open until two in the morning. But what if I told you the city's Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection for Denver is proposing bars and nightclubs stay open until four in the morning? Crazy, right? It has not yet been presented to the Denver City Council because the district is currently gauging public interest in the idea.
I've never been a nightclub person. Even when I was in my early 20s, I couldn't fathom staying at a bar until closing time, at two in the morning. I actually don't think I've ever been up till two in the morning. I'm not kidding, I love sleeping. I also strongly believe only bad things and tomfoolery happen after midnight.
Here's what the city is proposing
- The idea was approved by both the mayor and the Denver police Department.
- Yes, bars will stay open until 4 a.m if the proposal passes, but here's the catch. Bars and nightclubs will serve alcohol only until two in the morning, which has always been the standard cutoff time. Again, so late.
- A shakeup like this hasn't happened since the early 80's, but the higher-up folks say that there's a need for this new proposal because of the population boom.
- The new proposal will give people a chance to finish their drinks and get the hell out.
- Here's another catch: only some bars will be allowed to stay open later. This will create a staggering effect, meaning fewer people flood out at the same time. So, it's kind of a safety thing.
If you're absolutely crazy and would stay out until 4 am, you'll have to wait because the new law wouldn't pass until the end of June, with a start date of next January.
