LIST: Check Out These Odd Things That Coloradans Have Memorized
I find the human brain to be extremely fascinating. Are you also the type of person who has random phone numbers crammed inside? Or a bunch of Colorado zip codes that will not help you out in the grand scheme of things?
It can be hilariously frustrating sometimes.
For example, I can never remember if my girlfriend's birthday is on the 9th or 11th of May. But do you need a 1-877-CASH-NOW commercial from 2003 recited word-for-word? If you do, I am your guy.
I started researching why we retain random and useless information like this. Here is what I found.

Coloradans and Memory
What I found is that there is still a lot of mystery regarding our memory. We do not have complete control of what we remember or forget. The Harvard Gazette says this about the mystery.
...our brains prioritize encoding memories based on how much attention we give them, the emotional intensity of the experience, and how relevant it is to our current situation.
So maybe you remember that random commercial because you were a kid and it was a formative time. That memory is locked into our brains and we truly only kind of know why.
Random Things Coloradans Memorize
We wanted to see what random things Colorado residents have memorized.
Here are a few random things I have memorized.
- Random jingles and commercials from the early 2000s.
- My mom's work phone number despite not working there for over 10 years.
- Nearly every state capital.
- The year friends and family were born, but not their age.
We decided to ask Coloradans on social media, on the air, and the app what random things they have memorized. It looks like there is a theme here.
