Colorado Experienced Two Earthquakes This Week
Residents of Glenwood Springs may have felt a little shaken up on Tuesday, as two earthquakes were reported in the area during the early morning hours.
According the the U.S. Geological Survey, the first quake was recorded at 3:02 a.m., and had a 3.4 magnitude. The second one happened just a little over an hour later at 4:13 a.m., with a slightly higher magnitude of 3.6. Nearby news stations reported that locals in Glenwood Springs were able to feel light shaking and hear low rumbling when the quakes struck, however, no damage or injuries have been reported.
Earthquakes are measured in several ways: magnitude, intensity, and ground acceleration. The Colorado Geological Survey better breaks down how earthquakes are measured, as well as the most destructive ones that have happened in our state. Colorado's largest earthquake actually occurred just west of Fort Collins in 1882.
