
Colorado Lands Near the Top for Best Drivers in America
When you drive around the state of Colorado, you might be thinking to yourself that you are the only sane driver on the roads. I know I certainly feel this way sometimes.
Are Colorado Drivers Really That Bad?
People cutting me off, tailgating, concentrating on their phone instead of driving, are just a sliver of the reasons why one would think Colorado drivers are some of the worst in the nation.

Now add in the fact that two Colorado cities ranked as some of the worst for drivers in the nation, and you would assume that Colorado is pretty low on the list of states with the best drivers, right? Nope.
Colorado’s Surprising Driver Ranking
You are probably going to be just as surprised to find out as I was that Colorado is one of the top states in the nation for good drivers. According to Lending Tree, Colorado ranks third on the list of states with the best drivers in 2025.

Lending Tree ranked Colorado as third on the list based on driving incidents per 1,000 drivers, and Colorado only had 23.7. Michigan ranked the best state for drivers, with driving incidents per 1,000 at 20.9.

I'm not certain that this list is solid, however. Lending Tree has Florida ranked as the second-best state for drivers in the nation. I lived in Florida for a number of years, and I can tell you firsthand, the drivers there are pretty bad when they get behind the wheel.
