Charley Pride has always been a trailblazer. He has opened the door for so many people from all walks of life to be welcomed into the country music community. Imagine being an African-American country singer in the 1960's trying to make it in this industry. I can't begin to imagine all the hurdles he had to jump and how strong he had to be to get to where he has. I admire, respect and am a huge fan of Mr. Pride.

It was on this date in 1967 that Charley Pride did what no African-American solo artist had ever done before. He took the stage to perform at the Grand Ole Opry. What an amazing feeling that had to be for Charley. I am thankful that my parents were huge fans of his and my house was filled with the sounds of "The Snakes Crawl at Night", "Kaw-Liga", "Is Anybody Going to San Antone" and so many more. Thanks for being the man you are Charley. You have made one heck of a difference.
