For the first time this century, one Colorado sheriff's department will once again be allowed to wear cowboy hats while on the clock. It has been more than four decades since the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office has worn cowboy hats and now, if officers choose to do so, they can once again.

The announcement by the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office was made on the social media platform, X, on Monday, July 1, 2024. The last time officers of the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office were allowed the option of wearing a cowboy hat as part of the uniform was in the 70s and 80s.

The approved cowboy hat for the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office deputies is the black wool Stetson from the Stallion Collection. The black Stetson hats cost approximately $160 at stetson.com and will have to be purchased by officers if they choose to wear the hat as part of the uniform for the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office.

Personally, I really like the look and it just feels "Colorado" too. I would love to see more Colorado sheriff's offices across the state adopt the look of the cowboy hat as part of the uniform.
