The Weld County Sheriff's K9 team has been busy lately – first recovering $500K worth of methamphetamine during a traffic stop on August 30, and then assisting with another major drug bust on September 10.

According to the Weld County Sheriff's Office, at approximately 7:30 p.m. on September 10, Deputy Neugebauer and his K9 partner Viper were called to assist Brighton Police with a traffic stop at East 168th Avenue and 9th Street. Brighton PD had pulled over a vehicle, occupied by two women, who had been spotted leaving a known drug house.

Once on scene, K9 Viper performed an open air sniff of the exterior of the vehicle, and alerted to the odor of narcotics at the driver's side door.

Brighton PD requested for the driver to step out of the vehicle, and further questioned if she had any drugs. The female driver admitted that there was cocaine and meth in a bag in the backseat of the car. Officers located the bag and inside, found small plastic baggies containing a crystal substance, a large bag containing a white powdery substance, as well as two black, rectangular packages containing drugs.

In total, police seized 3.76 pounds of meth and 5.5 pounds of cocaine. The estimated street value of the drugs recovered during the stop was more than $95K.
