Peace and quiet — sometimes it's easier said than done, but I found a place over the weekend that is pretty easily accessible and provides a LOT of solitude.

That place is Soapstone Prairie Natural Area just past Wellington. After exploring Horsetooth and other mountainous trails during my first couple weeks here in Northern Colorado, I thought it would be cool to check out some different kind of scenery.

Soapstone was just what I was looking for. I arrived later in the afternoon and practically had the entire place to myself and when I say myself...I mean it. There wasn't a soul to be found (at least on two legs) but what I DID find was peace, quiet, wide open spaces and a ton of trails.

The cool thing about Soapstone (other than the amount of solitude you can find) is the amount of trails and the vastness of the place itself. There are so many connecting trails and you can actually end of going all the way to Red Mountain Open Space if you choose to. For this particular adventure, I decided to stick to the approximate 5-mile Towhee Loop which provided some great pics and I even got to make a few four legged friends as well.

Here are a few pics from my adventure, the smoke sunset actually provided quite the backdrop:
