Parents always dream of their kids having one or more after school activities that they're passionate about. But somehow I don't think the "After School Satan Club" is something parents would be too thrilled about.

The Satanic Temple is trying to launch its After School Satan Club in various elementary schools across the country this year, including those in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Pensacola, Portland, Salt Lake City, Seattle, Tuscon, Washington, D.C., and Springfield, Missouri.

Okay, so Northern Colorado didn't make the list (yet).

According to the Springfield News-Leader, one school received a request to establish the club on Monday, and it will be evaluated based on board policies presiding over the community and student-initiated use of school facilities.

"The district's board of education has policies, procedures, and guidelines in place that govern how school buildings may be used when the buildings are not being used for district educational programs or district-sponsored activities," district spokeswoman Teresa Bledsoe wrote in a statement to the newspaper. "Granting a request for use of district facilities does not constitute the district's endorsement of the activity, organization, organization's mission, organization's message, or any opinion expressed by the organization, its members, or persons who attend the activity."

Basically, Teresa wants to make it very clear that Springfield/St. Louis schools are NOT Satanic. (Whew! God forbid.)

Okay, so maybe we shouldn't be so quick to judge the Satanic Temple though. See, all they really want is to be included in religious freedom laws and for their faith to be accepted by schools - which is kinda fair, right?

Still freaky? Okay, fair enough. They also want to establish the "presence of a contrasting voice that helps children to understand that one doesn't need to submit to superstition in order to be a good person."

Teresa Bledsoe says that while the request will be evaluated, she doesn't know how long the process will last. (Giiiirrrrlllll. Say what we're all thinking: this is crazy and will NEVER be approved!)
