There definitely was a lot of excitement and interest in this little 'market' on 4th Street when it opened in July of 2021. Now, brown paper on the windows signals closure.

A lot of work went into the creation of this little business and the renovation of the space; it's really a shame to see that they've had to close their doors so soon. You have to wonder what's next for the space?

I'll be honest, when I had heard that there was a 'general market' coming to Downtown Loveland, I pictured a small 'grocery' store, I guess. A place where I could pop in for milk, eggs, band aids, maybe some deli meats, etc. When Sweetheart City General & Kitchen & Provisions opened, however, I found something completely different.

Sweetheart City had great sandwiches, there's no denying that. It was great food, that was different for Downtown; you could get a charcutarie board. They also carried some local beers in cans, and Dark Heart Coffee, which was neat. They had flowers and honey, stuff for the home. Bottled water and soft drinks, and more.

It seemed to be almost 'too trendy,' maybe the demographic for the store didn't fit the model for success in Downtown. I could be way off base though. I did reach out to the store and they declined to comment on the closure, for the time being only to say,

It's complicated.

I remember them making a big deal about the little model train track that ran up above along the wall. The couple of times I was in I never remembered to look for it. I know I didn't hear it running.

Needless to say, I probably won't ever be hearing that train, as Sweetheart City has closed after opening up only in July of 2021.
