What you are about to see may be one of the most amazing things you have ever seen. For the first time, man has actually taken true flight into his own hands.

Yves Rossy was a pilot with the Swiss Air Force. He has been a pilot for decades and he truly believes that the power of flight has always been in his DNA. Being passionate about flight, he wanted to get out of the cockpit to experience the true feeling of flight so took up parachuting which quickly led to a need for extended flight. To do that and have more control over his trajectory, he picked up sky surfing and wingsuiting.

That still wasn't good enough. He wanted more control and to be able to climb and come up with a way to extend level flight. Rossy first made a wing that was a rigid harness integrated into inflatable wing panels strapped to his back. Of course he still wasn't satisfied so he came up with a way to add propulsion.

Rossy first used two model jet turbines in 2004 that allowed level flight and then added two more in 2006 for a total of four jet turbines strapped to his back.

Here are the specs:

  • Climb at 112 MPG
  • Average speed of 125 MPH
  • Dive at 185 MPH
  • Wing weighs 121 Pounds
  • Wingspan of 6.5 Feet
  • Flight time from 6-13 minutes
  • Powered by 4 Jetcat P200 engines

Don't get too excited about going out and buying one for yourself. There is only one other person in the world capable of flying like this. Vince Reffet has been training under Yves Rossy since 2009 and is known as one of the best skydivers in the world holding many records.
