Sig Pro 2340The idea of an elementary school kid finding a gun in the bushes is a scary thought to most parents, and that’s what police in Windsor are trying to avoid.

They are searching for a gun that was discarded near Grandview Elementary School by a man who has “since been questioned and taken in for a psychological evaluation.”

According to the Coloradoan,

The man had been driving his truck in a field near the school at about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday when his vehicle became stuck. After leaving his truck, he told police he separated his 40 caliber semi-automatic pistol from its loaded magazine, dropped the magazine on the ground and threw the gun in a bush.

So, the good news is that the gun does not have a magazine on it and the guy who dropped it was not arrested on any criminal charges. However, there is likely still a firearm lying around somewhere near the elementary school.

That's never a good thing.

If you live in the area, or happen to be near the school and find the gun, please contact the Windsor police immediately.

Grandview Elementary is located just north of the Windsor King Soopers, near the Windshire subdivision.
