According to the Coloradoan, the Northern Colorado Legislative Alliance are working to introduce a bill in the state legislature that would widen Interstate 25 in the near future instead of the projected finish date of 2070.

The project is widely known to be needed in Northern Colorado, and it would create a three lane highway between Longmont and Fort Collins. The bill is set to be introduced to the Colorado Senate on Monday by Senator Randy Baumgardner of Sulphur Springs. The project could be started in 2017 if the bill passes and voters approve it in the November statewide election. $3.5 billion in bonds would be issued to pay for the project.

The Colorado Department of Transportation, which currently has the widening in their long term plans, currently has the project slated to be completed in 2070.

Mulberry Street in Fort Collins is where the three lane highway would end in Fort Collins, and would merge to two lanes for the rest of the route to Wyoming.
