I ran across this article this morning on Facebook and it made me think of this whole "welfare" and "food stamp" issue in a much different light.  I hope you'll read my story but the moral of it is Be The Bear!

Most of us remember going to Yellowstone back in the 60's and early 70's and watching the bears feed at one of the trash dump sites. Some were even lucky enough to feed some of these bears by hand; and other animals as well. Then all of a sudden they started wandering into campsites and pillaging their way to glory while mauling and killing people along the way. It was easy pickings.

We all know what happened next.

Park Rangers put two and two together and said NO MORE!!!  Locks went on everything, new garbage cans were invented to keep the bears out and people were warned they would be fined and possibly jailed for feeding the bears.

So the bears went back to work and in less than 2 years things were back to normal. The bears were thriving, surviving and doing what they do.

People are no different.  We're smarter than animals though and learn very quickly that if we don't have to do anything, we usually don't.  Is it only me that finds it odd that many have to take a urine test to even get a job and then when they get the job, they are helping to pay the way of those on welfare and collecting food stamps who don't have to take a urine test to get his/her money?

Of course there are cases where it is needed. Case in point a family friend.  She had been married over 15 years and it was always agreed that she would take care of the family at home and he would provide financially. One day he up and left for a 19 year old bimbo from Florida and left her and his 3 kids high and dry.  So she applied for welfare, AND SCHOOL, at the same time. In less than 2 years, she was off the system and 2 years after that found a job that pays over $50,000 a year.

If you need the system then by all means use it but it should be limited and not assumed to be a lifetime benefit because you are actually entitled to nothing.  Also, these poor children have no choice; the parents and especially the mother does.  If a woman has 18 children and has been on the "system" the entire time there should be some kind of a penalty.  We KNOW it's a rampant problem that a lot of women keep having kids because the more kids they have the more assistance they get.

Moral of my story: Stop the "someone owes me" attitude and be the bear!
