Whether it's high school, college or graduate school, graduating students are likely expecting a nice little gift for their hard work. So, when you're writing that check, what's the correct amount? RetailMeNot.com recently asked parents what they thought was the appropriate amount because if you ask the graduate, they would expect a gift in the six-figure range.

If you're opening the wallet for a high school grad, respondents think $111 is a solid gift. As for college grads, parents feel the extra time is worth a little extra money, about $243. Finally, if you take your studies even more seriously and go to graduate school, expect a gift of about $256. Nothing earth-shattering that will make a dent into your mountain of student loans, but at least it will pay for a nice night out with your mates.
