What State Attraction do You Think Made the Top 50 Most Underrated Tourist Stops?
A recent list of the most underrated tourist attractions has come out and can you guess what attraction in Colorado made the list? If you've ever been to Northern Colorado, you might have been there.
It is crazy to look at the list and say to yourself 'wow, Colorado you rock!' There are definitely a million and five reasons why you move here, live here, stay here and come back.
With some 50-plus 14'ers, lakes, rivers, streams and breweries, it's no wonder that Colorado is on the list with such a great tourist attraction, but it seems to be a little spooky why this one attraction made the top underrated attractions in the U.S.
The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park is best known for the movie 'The Shining', which, by the way, wasn't even filmed in Estes Park or at the Stanley Hotel. The original big screen movie anyway-- later when Stephen King did his own version of his now famous story, it was filmed at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park. It ran on commercial television as a mini-series (by the way... the reason that the Stanley is associated with the Stephen King novel/movie is because it was while staying at the Stanley the last day of the season with no other guests that the book came to be. Rumor has it that the book was 3/4 of the way written before King left the next day)
The hotel itself has the most wonderful history dating back over a hundred years and five or so owners. The creator(s) of the hotel really had a lot to do with the whole development of the town of Estes Park itself. But we don't want to ruin the tour, where you'll hear these details and many more including haunted tales that have been documented.
Another known movie was filmed in part at the Stanley Hotel, you might have heard of the 'little known' film... 'Dumb and Dumber'!
