I felt really out of the loop and uncool because every time I turn around it seems like someone is talking about or making a joke about Honey Boo Boo and I honestly had no idea what it was. I figured I couldn't be the only person in the world who had no idea what it was,  so I decided to do a little research and get myself and all the rest of you Boo Boo-less folks up to speed.

It's a TV show! It's not just a one time YouTube video or set of those crazy memes on Facebook like I figured it was. The reality show actually called Here Comes Honey Boo Boo is a spin-off of the previously popular reality show Toddlers & Tiaras. It is centered around contestant Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson and her family, who reside in rural Georgia.

The show consists of a family of six chopping up a roadkill deer for dinner, belly-flopping in the mud, and—those with delicate constitutions may want to avert their eyes for this next part—farting in public. Among the show’s other apparent charms:  Honey Boo Boo’s catch phrases (for example,  ”A dollar make me wanna holler”) and inability to control herself after drinking “go-go juice,” a mixture of Red Bull and Mountain Dew.

As ridiculous as it may sound, it works. Here Comes Honey Boo Boo recently had it's fourth episode air at the same time as the Republican National Convention (RNC), and drew in more than double the viewers. The fourth episode of Honey Boo Boo pulled in just shy of 3 million viewers at 10 p.m., according to Nielsen overnight ratings. Fox News coverage of the RNC  was the second most viewed program at that time with 1.2  million viewers.
