Wellington Middle School Honored as a Colorado Trailblazer ‘School to Watch’

Wellington Middle School was designated as a 2012 Colorado Trailblazer “School to Watch.” The honor is part of a recognition program developed by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform.

Leaders from the Colorado Association of Middle Level Educators use the criteria of academic excellence, school responsiveness to the needs and interests of young adolescents, strong leadership, teachers who work together to improve curriculum and instruction, and a collective commitment to assessment and accountability to bring about continuous improvement.

At the end of this month, Wellington Middle School will take its place as one of fourteen Colorado and 279 middle schools nationwide to have earned this designation.An open house and awards ceremony  will be held from 3  to 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, at the middle school, 4001 Wilson Avenue, Wellington.

About the “School to Watch” Program

Launched in 1999, Schools to Watch began as a national program to identify middle-grade schools across the country that were meeting or exceeding 37 criteria developed by the Forum. The Forum developed a website,  schoolstowatch.org that features online tours of schools, as well as detailed information about the selection criteria used in the recognition program.
