UPDATE 4.25.17: According to the Greeley Tribune, a member of the family identified the woman as Kris VandeBerg and the deceased man as Art Henderlong. Henderlong accidentally ignited his oxygen tank with a cigarette and that started the fire. A gofundme account has been set up for the family who lost everything in the fire.

Just before 4 Sunday morning, the Weld County Sheriff's Office responded to a home on WCR 68 in Briggsdale to a report of a house fire. A man and a woman were in the house when it caught on fire. The woman was able to escape the house and call 911. The man stayed inside to try put the fire out using a fire extinguisher as the fire was contained to the living room at that time.

At about 4:10 am responders were informed that the house was fully engulfed in flame; responders had not yet arrived on scene and the man was still inside the house. The 68-year-old man who was attempting to put the fire out died as a result.

The Weld County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire. The name of the deceased will be released by the Weld County Coroner’s Office at the conclusion of their investigative and administrative process.
