A ground breaking ceremony was held Thursday morning (2/29/12) for The Weld County Fallen Officer Memorial at Bittersweet Park in Greeley. A number of Greeley and Weld County Officials attended the ceremony!

The Memorial will be constructed of granite slabs with the names of seven officers killed in the line of duty.

Weld County Sheriff's Deputy Sam Brownle
Weld County Sheriff's Department

Weld County Deputy Sam Brownlee was killed in the line of duty in November of 2010.  Since then his family and friends and the Weld County Sheriff’s Department have been planning a memorial to remember those who have fallen in the line of duty.

According to the Office of Weld County Commissioners:

Weld County Sheriff John Cooke

The Weld County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with fallen deputy Sam Brownlee’s family and Greeley City Councilman Rob Casseday, began work on the memorial in January 2011.

It has been made possible because of the collaboration of the Sam Brownlee family, Greeley City officials, Weld County officials, law enforcement agencies and the support of the business community.

The project is expected to cost $250,000 and is scheduled to be completed in about a month. This is an artist’s rendering of what the Fallen Officer Memorial will look like:
