I first read about Austin Porzak of Boulder on the Daily Camera. Austin's video of getting caught in a Vail avalanche has gone viral. It truly is powerful to realize how 48 seconds can be life changing.

On Austin's YouTube channel he talks about his experience saying "I don't think being in an avalanche is cool or something to be proud of. It's scary, and something that should be avoided at all costs, but part of being in the backcountry is being open and honest with others so that they can learn and continue to enjoy the wilderness as well."

After watching Austin's video and after your heart as returned to its normal rhythm, take a quick second to read what Austin wrote about being in an avalanche and the safety precautions that likely saved his life.

Nature is truly an awesome place.
