A Livermore man who was fatally shot by a deputy Monday had called 911 to complain about a neighbor, then used a semiautomatic rifle to open fire on deputies who responded. 60-year-old Louis James Skelly died of multiple gunshot wounds. Sheriff's officials say that as two deputies approached his property, Skelly fired his rifle. One deputy returned fire with his department-issued rifle, striking Skelly. The deputies weren't wounded. The deputies have been placed on routine administrative leave while the shooting is investigated. Read more on this story in the Coloradoan.
