Utah was the last state to use the firing squad for their method of execution. How fitting is that they just voted to bring it back. The reason why may be even more shocking, no pun intended.

In a vote of 18-10 last night, Tuesday March 10, Utah lawmakers proposed to bring back the firing squad as their method of execution due to the shortage of chemicals needed for lethal injection. The law now goes before Governor Gary Herbert for him to sign. Lethal injection is still their method of choice but if the stuff required to do that is not available, then it will be a firing squad.

True story. I guess Texas has enough for two executions and those are scheduled in the next two weeks. If they go forward with those, with no stay of execution, there will be no more juice for lethal injections.

How is that even possible? Isn't there a mad scientist somewhere who can make more? But to be honest, why waste the time and money when bullets are MUCH cheaper. Hear me out, taking a life is a horrible thing; just ask the families that have had lives taken from them which is what put the person on death row in the first place.

Mercy? Give me a break! Like anyone on death row, which has been put there with ample proof, showed any mercy. In my opinion, lethal injection or even a firing squad IS showing mercy. If I had my way about it, I would execute every person on death row in the same manner they snuffed the life out of their own victim/s.

Many are opposed to the firing squad because the prisoner may move or the shooters may miss the heart causing a slow death. In all fairness, lethal injection is not perfect either and many have suffered long and hard that way as well, sometimes as long as 2 hours before taking their last breath.

Arkansas is also trying to bring back the firing squad, Wyoming recently voted it down and Oklahoma wants to use nitrogen gas as an alternative to lethal injections.
