U.S. Forest Service Burning Slash Piles Today & Tomorrow Near Estes Park

If you see some smoke to the west today, here’s why: U.S. Forest Service firefighters plan to burn slash piles starting as soon as today (Thursday) and may continue through Friday if conditions allow. Burning is planned for the Estes Valley and Big Thompson areas, located south and east of Estes Park.
Conditions are evaluated each day of the burn to determine if ignition will take place. Wind, fuel moisture, staffing and snow cover all play a factor in where and whether ignition occurs.
