If you aren't a fan of train horns permeating the air throughout Fort Collins, your wish may be granted soon. According to the Coloradoan, on Monday officials from the city made a presentation to the Federal Railroad Administration in hopes to petition a rule that requires crossing gates at intersections inside a quiet zone which would be designated for train horns.

The city is hoping that the waiver will be granted so they can then take the next steps which would move them closer to establishing a quiet zone along the tracks down the middle of Mason Street in Old Town. Due to the complexity of the request, a final decision may not be made for several months.

The proposed quiet zone would be 1.16 miles long, stretching from Old Main Drive on the Colorado State University campus to College Avenue just north of its intersection with Cherry Street.
