Tornadoes Hit Northeastern Colorado

A tornado destroyed one mobile home and damaged two others south of Akron in Washington County just before 8 p.m. last night, but no injuries are reported. Half of the town of Akron was without power after six power poles were knocked down between Brush and Last Chance.

Very high winds were also reported in Holyoke. The storm overturned airplanes at the airport and destroyed several buildings. Trees were knocked over by the wind in Fort Collins and power-lines were toppled in Weld County.

Wind gusts of 52 mph were reported in Denver, knocking over trees and causing flight cancellations at Denver International Airport. Airlines reported 26 flight cancellations at DIA as of 8 p.m. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect through 6 tonight for most of Northern and Northeastern Colorado.

High winds caused broken telephone poles and downed power lines in the Greeley area yesterday. East of Windsor at Weld County Road 27 and Colo. 392, a downed power line from the wind caused a grass fire at about 5 p.m. The Windsor Severance Fire Rescue responded with two engines and a crew truck to the fire and was able to bring the fire under control. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect through 6 tonight for most of Northern and Northeastern Colorado. Trees were knocked over by the wind in Fort Collins.
