I won't talk about my political views very on TRI 102.5 very much.

Like my mom always said, "There is a time and a place for everything." On the air on TRI 102.5 is neither the time nor the place to talk politics.

We are about the best variety, and I like to think that extends to our listeners as well. I hope we have a great variety of democrats and republicans, with a mixture of independents and non-voters in their as well.

Issue #1 isn't really political, though. I mean, really, does the Lincoln Center have anything to do with politics? Not really. It is all about music, dance, performance and art! Does the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery have anything to do with politics? No. It doesn't.

But, ballot issue #1 has everything to do with these great institutions, and the creation of more like them in the future. The capital improvement tax that #1 approves has been with us since 1973, and the proceeds have directly paid for the above mentioned excellent features of Fort Collins. There are more to come.

So, without further ado, here are five reasons why I think you should vote yes on 2015's ballot issue #1!

    The Future Improvements

The rest of this post features projects already completed with money raised by this capital improvement tax. Here are some of the items slated to be handled after the ballot issue is again approved by voters.

New sidewalks, better bike paths, a whitewater park in the Poudre River, new buses, protecting nature in urban areas, an improvement to the Gardens on Spring Creek, a new community center for the southeastern area of Fort Collins and more!

The Fort Collins Museum of Discovery

The Fort Collins Museum of Discovery not only lets us in on the wonders of our wide world and universe, but also stays local by focusing on the unique ecology of the Poudre River. It was paid for with money from the capital improvement taxes!

    The Lincoln Center

Who else is going to bring you shows like the Pedal Punks? Only the Lincoln Center combines to bring us the best acts from around the nation and world, and still hosts many local productions as well.

The Lincoln Center was bought and paid for with capital improvement taxes!

    Bike Paths

Bike lanes and bike paths are the norm in Fort Collins, not the exception. Thanks to capital improvement taxes.

    It doesn't RAISE taxes!

This tax has been with us since before I was born, and way before I ever thought about becoming a Fort Collins resident. If you vote yes on #1, you are voting to continue something that has already been happening. According to their website...

    • Issue #1 will not raise local taxes, it is a continuation of the Building On Basics tax we have had for the last ten years and will generate $83 million for our community capital projects over the next 10 years.
