NATIONAL NIGHT OUT IN FORT COLLINS

The nationwide event happens tonight in Fort Collins. A time when neighborhoods come together and celebrate family and neighbors. It's National Night Out in Fort Collins. This is an event that is celebrated and encouraged throughout the nation.

The event, started in 1984, was designed to develop and create various crime prevention programs in neighborhoods across America.  In the first year, NNO had 2.5 million participants in 23 states. Today, 37.8 million Americans participate in all states and National Night Out has been adopted by other communities, including some Canadian communities and military bases worldwide.

Neighborhoods in Fort Collins are encouraged to register their events, big or small. City emergency authorities are given a list of participants and often stop by to discuss neighborhood safety programs.

If you see your neighbors out tonight gathering in the streets, now you know why and next year, be sure to get your event registered and turn up the volume on this annual event.
