We have a heard the phrase "No Regrets". I think it is a bunch of bull. We all have regrets. Some are big. Some are small, but I believe there are times we all wish we would have done things a little differently. That being said, I do believe things happen for a reason and I am completely satisfied with the way my life has turned out.

Here are my "Top 5 Regrets in Life":

5. Not Sticking With Piano Lessons

When I was 7-years-old my Mom had me take piano lessons. She told me I had to try it for one year and if I didn't like it, I didn't have to continue. One year and one day after I started, I quit. I so wish I would have stuck with it. I would love to be able to play the piano. The piano pictured above is the family piano my Dad rescued from our house fire, by himself, when I was small.

4. Breaking My Retainer

When I was 16-years-old, I wanted braces. The reason I never smiled when I was a kid is because I had crooked teeth. I used part of the money I made raising pigs to pay for the braces. I wore the braces for a couple years and then got a retainer. I broke the retainer, but was too scared to tell my parents, because I didn't think they or I could afford to replace it. My teeth slowly went crooked again. I regret being so naive. Mom would have found a way. She always did.

3. Not Going to Hollywood

When I was in college at NJC in Sterling I took all of the acting classes I could. I always wished I had been more brave and would have pursued acting. I wanted to go to Hollywood and be in movies, but I was too practical for that. I knew how competitive it is and how unlikely is was that I would actually make it big. Luckily, I found radio where I could still perform on some level and our Habajeeba Show satisfies that itch every year. Plus, who knows if I would have met my wife if I had been successful at acting.

2. Not Getting My Degree

I graduated from Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, CO with an Associate of Arts Degree. Then I went to CSU in Fort Collins and never felt like I fit in. I was a shy small-town kid at a major university. The classes were too big. I was working 40 hours a week and taking 18 credits, which nearly killed me. I didn't do well in school because I felt like I never had time to study and I didn't like to study. Then I got a job at K99. I figured, this is what I want to do for a living, so I quit school. I still wish I had a BA from Colorado State, but I don't regret taking the job with the radio station.

1. Not being able to give my wife children

Please don't feel sorry for us. We are very happy. However, the first few years of marriage I didn't want children, so I made my wife, Jenny, wait.  I figured, when we both wanted children, it would just happen. It never did. Jenny got pregnant a couple times, but it wasn't meant to be. Like they said in the movie, "Raising Arizona", "Her insides were a rocky place where my seed could find no purchase". Neither one of us wanted to use artificial means, so we remain childless. I deeply regret that I didn't give Jenny the opportunity to become a mother. She would have been a wonderful one.

I sincerely hope you don't have many regrets in your life.
