It was September 2014 when I was on my way home from the Journey 4 Justice national rally when it happened. A riders worst nightmare; a blown engine.

As bad as a blown motor hundreds of miles from home is, it could have been much worse in many ways. I was lucky enough to have friends who had friends (Terry Brown, pictured, came down from Omaha to haul my bike; I had never met Terry before) willing to tow my bike into Omaha and very lucky to have a warranty on the motor to cover the damage.

All in all, it was a complete motor rebuild and now I have a decision to make which I am torn on. After a 1000 break-in miles, the motor oil needs to be changed and that is where my question to you comes in. I have an idea on what I am going to do but really want to hear what you think about what kind of oil to use and brands.

I know air-cooled motors are a different beast and those of us who ride a lot of miles should probably go with a synthetic oil vs. a conventional motor oil. Or, does it really matter?

I would love to see all your comments on what you have done with your new motors and why. Do you have a favorite brand that is tried and true and why synthetic vs. conventional motor oil. Your opinion is valued a great deal and I want to make sure I make the right decision as the oil I put in on this oil change will remain the same brand/style throughout the life of this motor.
