Tim McGraw’s ‘Highway Don’t Care’ Video Was Inspired by His Girls
Tim McGraw‘s ‘Highway Don’t Care’ video is partly an exploration of the dangers of texting and driving. The singer reveals that the video treatment is largely a result of his papa bear instincts, inspired by his three girls — one of whom sports a driver’s license and is behind the wheel.
“I’m not gonna stand on a soap box and tell everybody how they should live their lives and what you should and shouldn’t do,” he says (quote via GAC). “It just felt like it was the right opportunity. It really meant something for me to say it because I do have teenage daughters, so it wouldn’t be like just throwing a message out there for the hell of throwing a message out there.”
The star-studded video, which includes appearances by Keith Urban and Taylor Swift, is powerful and moving. It conveys a message that’s applicable not only to McGraw’s daughters, but also to anyone growing up in this generation of mobile communication.
“Having a phone outside of your house and texting and talking on the phone and driving, it’s not engrained as it is now. We’ve lived with it for a while but that’s all they know,” the singer shares.
Although McGraw’s daughters don’t really think he’s a cool dad and they’d rather listen to the catchy tunes of One Direction, they are certainly loved by their father! Hopefully, they — as well as all other avid texters — will listen to the message of the ‘Highway Don’t Care’ video and put their phones down while in the car.
