Three Evans men have been arrested following their involvement in an illegal cock fighting ring.

Evans police officers were originally called to a home in the 3700 block of Burlington Avenue on November 10 for an animal-at-large report. Upon arrival, the police discovered a set-up consistent with illegal cock fighting, and called more officers to the scene, as well as veterinarians from two local animal hospitals. The injured and altered roosters were collected, and although police asked if the veterinarians would be able to re-establish the birds in a tranquil setting, it was determined that animals had been bred to behave in a very vicious manner and were considered dangerous. Because of this, 28 roosters seized from the residence were humanely euthanized.

According to police, methamphetamine and illegal marijuana was also confiscated from the property. During the call, Luis Mosquedo-Razo, 31, Pablo Cortez-Diaz, 27, and Gambino Villegas-Delgado, 52, were all arrested and charges against them include Animal Fighting and Aggravated Cruelty to Animals, Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana.
