Yikes, there have been way to many school shootings in the news recently and today there are reports that a number of schools in Jefferson County, Colorado are on “lockout” after a threat was phoned in to the district.

***Update the lockout was lifted just after 2PM this afternoon.***

This was tweeted by JeffCO schools just after 11AM this morning:

This was then tweeted at 11:45AM:

The Denver Channel is reporting that, “Columbine High School is following a ‘lockout’ procedure due to a threat that was called in. The district reports that students and staff are safe inside.” A lockout means that the everyone else is locked out of the school and the perimeter is secured while classes can continue like normal inside. Jefferson county school shared this link that explains their standard response protocol and defines, lockouts and lockdowns. Let’s hope this turns out to not be a credible threat. I’ll update this blog when I hear any more about it. The Denver Channelalso says that police are investigating three phone all threats that came in around 10AM today. They also report that the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says all students and staff are safe, but the following schools are in lockout:

  • Blue Heron Elementary School
  • Columbine Hills Elementary
  • Dutch Creek Elementary
  • Governor’s Ranch Elementary
  • Leawood Elementary
  • Normandy Elementary
  • Ken Caryl Middle School

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office tweeted this at 2:14PM.
