With bullying being such a hot button issue, it's amazing to see an app that is set to be released, that some people say, will lead to exactly that. What is being described as "Yelp" for people, the new app Peeple, is set to be released next month (November 2015). The app allows you to rate a person and leave a review... on anyone. Friends, family, people you've dated, co-workers... anyone! All you need to sign up is a valid Facebook page, and be over 21. To "review" someone, all you need is their name and phone number. This means you don't have to sign up for it... there can be a profile about you, and you have no control over it.

After you post your review of someone, they get a text alert that there is a review of them and they have an opportunity to respond to that review, or contact the person who did the review, in an attempt to persuade them to take the post down. But once it's up... it's up. There is also no way to stop someone from creating a profile about you.

Many people believe this will lead to bullying, especially celebrities, who are pointing out that they have made the choice to step into the spotlight. However, this app does nothing to protect those that shy away from the attention and don't want to be judged.

The creators however have a different view. They feel that this app is a way to spread "love and positivity." On their official Twitter they stated:

Well, I'm sorry Peeple, you are not allowed to have that argument... because what is happening to you at this moment, is what's going to happen to loads of people who don't want their private lives made public... and they, thanks to you, don't have a choice in the matter. Your response to people lashing out about your app, is a completely backwards statement and the exact reason why it should not be.
