There’s a Job Opening for a PIO at Larimer County Sheriff

Larimer County Sheriff Justin Smith
Todd Harding, TSM

The Larimer County Sheriffs Office has raised the bar for communicating with the media. Justin Smith is just great to work with when we need details on stories or more. The September Floods come to mind as a time when the sheriffs office was getting us information as fast as they could, knowing our radio stations would get it to our listeners as fast as we could.

Of course, the sheriff doesn’t do this alone, he has a liaison and it could be you!
The job description looks fun, interesting, and challenging. A Public Information Officer or PIO writes press releases and gets them to the media, and much more.

Qualifications:

  • Two years experience in a position that requires communicating with the public, preferably in law enforcement or other emergency service type agency.
  • Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Communication, Education, Journalism, or a related field. (Equivalency is based on two years of high-level experience equals one year of college work. For example, an employee with no college would require 8 years of high-level experience to reach the equivalency of the Bachelor’s Degree. It is obligatory upon the incumbent to provide proof of equivalency for review and ultimate acceptance by the Sheriff.)
  • Certification in Department Defensive Driving Course.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certifications by date of hire.
