There Comes a Time in Life When You Must Become Who You’ve Looked Up To

Remember the old George Jones song “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes”? I have wondered that so many times. Who is gonna fill those shoes? I have had many people in my career who I have considered my gurus in the industry. I have looked up to them and learned from them, leaned on them and relied on them. I have reached that point in my career where many of those people are no longer around to lean on.

You may have the same situation at your job, where your professional “yoda” has moved on. What do we do now? We need to become our heroes. We need to take what we have learned from those who taught us and become the next generation of “them”. We need to be what we have been trained to be. Our teachers all prepared us for how to do what we do. It is time to apply those lessons and be the ones who the next generation looks to just as we did the ones who came before us. Time to be your heroes and pass it on.
