Right up the road, the inspiration for the Shining, the Stanley hotel is looking to open a horror museum in the near future. According to Fox News, the hotel is looking to create a 43,000 square foot museum based on horror, with a film archive, a 500-seat auditorium, a discovery center, and interactive museum, a film production studio and rotating exhibits of fan favorites movies and television shows. The project would cost an estimated $24 million, and would require an investment of $11.5 million that has already been requests of the Colorado Regional Tourism Act.

The plan is for the new venue to essentially be "the" destination spot for horror. Boosting the local economy, bringing in fans of horror from around the world.
