The Mega Millions jackpot has once again risin to an astronomical amount that has people hoping and dreaming that they have the right numbers to win it all. It's hard not to fantasize about the lifestyle change with that kind of money. It makes us hopeful that this time we're lucky enough to bring home the loot. But, what are the realistic odds of winning? Here are some comparisons:

The odds of winning tonight's jackpot is 1 in 292 million. You have better odds of:
             becoming a Hollywood star - 1 in 1.5 million
             hitting a hole-in-one on consecutive par-three golf holes - 1 in 156 million
being struck by lightning in a one-year period - 1 in 1 million
becoming President of the United States - 1 in 10 million
going to the ER with a pogo stick injury - 1 in 115,300

Okay, so we got the negatives out of the way. Let's look at some things to improve those odds a bit. Here are some things people do to bring better luck to their picks:
Some people rub their lottery tickets on the bellies of pregnant women.
Some people wear their lucky underwear
Some people rub a bald man's head prior to purchasing their tickets
Some people wear their lucks socks when purchasing tickets.

Perhaps for something so significant you need to confer with someone "in the know". Someone who has a deeper connection to karma, luck, good vibrations, or other intangibles that might help you find the right numbers. You can try a psychic, but you may find that most of them refuse to provide numbers. Colorado psychic Daniela Mauser previously gave some advice on KRDO-TV: "Clear your mind and go somewhere quiet to really think. Concentrate on the numbers and ask the universe to bring you the numbers in order and write them down as they come".

Maybe you think that sounds like too much work and you'd just rather find out what others are doing instead? A new study found the most popular lottery numbers in the world! They said that these are the five "lucky" number that people play the most:
                                              7 - 11 - 17 - 27 - 19
Yep. That's it. Those are the numbers. Keep in mind that the study said these were "lucky" numbers, not winning numbers.

You could just say "the heck with it, I'm gonna do quick picks". There have been people who have won doing just that. But, some of the more experienced players would tell you that you're better off picking your own random numbers than doing quick pick.

Finally, you could be someone who looks at all this and decides that the odds are too big and it's not worth doing cause I'm not going to win anyway. Always remember: You're odds of winning improve when you try. And, somebody's gotta win.....WHY NOT YOU?
