The Band Perry, Jason Aldean + More Get Album Sales Boost After CMAs

The Band Perry were arguably the big winners at last week’s CMA Awards, winning crystal bullets for Single, Song and New Artist of the Year. This week, they’re continuing to reap the benefits as sales of their self-titled debut album are up 112 percent compared to the previous week.

Thompson Square (‘Thompson Square’ album sales up 96 percent), Eric Church (‘Chief’ up 61 percent), Jason Aldean (‘My Kinda Party’ up 53 percent) and Blake Shelton (‘Red River Blue’ up 52 percent) are three other artists that benefited from the television exposure. Sara Evans, Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley and Taylor Swift also had very strong weeks.

While Miranda Lambert’s ‘Four the Record’ continues to top the country album charts with 53K copies sold last week, that number is down 60 percent from her debut week. These figures shouldn’t be seen as a critique of her appearance or performance at the CMA Awards, however. Artists typically experience such sharp declines after a debut week.

Overall, country album sales were down four percent from the previous week. This can largely be explained by not having a highly anticipated debut album for fans to buy. Amongst the newbies, Joe Nichols led the way, selling just over 7,000 copies of ‘It’s All Good.’

Scotty McCreery, Lady Antebellum and Chris Young are three artists whose sales were relatively flat after singing on ABC. Viewers seemed more prone to buy singles, as sales of over a dozen songs jumped over 100 percent last week, led by Shelton’s ‘Footloose.’ The two newly released Swift songs sandwiched her new single ‘Ours’ at the top of the digital single charts.
