Don't freak out if you haven't filed your taxes yet.  It is not tax day! That is tomorrow.  Tax day normally falls on April 15th. However,  since today is a federal holiday,  this year taxes are due Tuesday, April 17.

The extra couple days was granted because April 15th was a Sunday this year, and Monday is Emancipation Day.  It's  a holiday in Washington D.C. celebrating the freeing of slaves in the district. Under the tax code, filing deadlines can't fall on Saturdays, Sundays or holidays.

Last year, Tax Day was extended until April 18, also thanks to Emancipation Day.
