There will be nothing getting between me and The Wombats on Friday, June 10 at Taste of Fort Collins (except, maybe Krazy Karl and his pizza...) but they're not the only alt rock band who will be taking the stage. We've got a killer lineup of local acts this year; these are just a few of my faves.

Strawberry Runners

This female-fronted indie rock band from Denver is for fans of Best Coast, the Dum Dum Girls and Alvvays. They make 'sweet' pop music that's perfect for kicking off the summer. One listen to Hatcher Creek, and I've got like, so many questions. 'Where should I put my picnic blanket?' 'Where are my cat-eye sunnies?' 'Why do I have a sudden desire to ditch my all-black wardrobe?'

So many questions.

Medic

I'm excited for Fort Collins to meet Medic at TOFC this year, because despite the band being from Denver, I've never had the pleasure of seeing them live. Aaron and Dominick Wagner are a [literal] band of brothers, who through their success and failure in past bands have realized that they are the 'constants' in each other's lives. (Read their story on Colorado Music Buzz)

The addition of Drew Barnard and Miller Harveaux make up the brother's most recent musical endeavor, Medic; four friends who agreed to persevere and create, even if it took every dollar they had to their names. (Full bio at wearemedic.com) Take a listen to Medic; I think it's working.

P O P F I L T E R

Later in the summer, they’ll be playing Divide Music Festival, among the likes of Bleachers, St. Motel, Cake, Miike Snow and more, if that tells you anything about Denver’s emerging indie pop group. This is a band I have seen live, and I can attest, their set at TOFC is going to be a good time.Bands I could see them opening for: The 1975, Two Door Cinema Club, Finish Ticket.

P O P F I L T E R will be on LOCAL X on 94.3 The X at 4 p.m., Wednesday, June 8 to talk about all things TOFC and do a live in-studio performance.

One Flew West

Their music is so feel-good, you actually don't realize that they're saying 'I hope you get hit by a bus.' This group of Longmont boys (now spread between Denver and Fort Collins) is going to do a great job getting the crowd hyped as The Wombats' opening act.

The indie rock band will be on LOCAL X on 94.3 The X at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, so tune in to hear them perform in studio and they'll make you laugh.
