The 2013 Oscar winners were finally announced during the awards ceremony hosted by Seth MacFarlane on Sunday, February 24. After a lengthy awards season with Ben Affleck's 'Argo' as the clear frontrunner, picking up Best Picture and Best Director titles every chance it had, the flick ended up snagging the big award of the evening -- Best Picture!

The 2012 Oscars managed to include the expected and shocks all at the same time. Odds on favorite, ‘The Artist’, won five awards including Best Picture, Best Actor for Jean Dujardin and Best Director for Michel Hazanivicius. But ‘Hugo’ gave it a run for its money, also bringing home five awards (though none in the major categories).

Oscar Winners: 'The King's Speech' Reigns, Portman Soars

There weren't a whole lot of surprises at the 83rd Academy Awards -- as expected, "The King's Speech" took the big prize as Best Picture. The film about King George VI overcoming his stutter also garnered a Best Actor statue for Colin Firth and a Best Director win for Tom Hooper.

"King"'s four statuettes tied "Inception," which also nabbed four awards in technical categories, for the most Oscars.

Oscar favorite Natalie Portman also took home the Best Actress statuette for her role in "Black Swan," and Melissa Leo and Christian Bale of "The Fighter" cleaned up in the supporting role categories.

James Franco and Anne Hathaway's Opening Monlogue For The Oscars [VIDEO]

James Franco and Anne Hathaway were certainly outside-the-box picks to host the 83rd annual Academy Awards. And after a pre-taped opening in which they tried to elicit advice from last year's host Alec Baldwin by channeling his dreams, “Inception” - style, the duo weren’t required to do a whole lot of heavy lifting in their opening monologue.

In it, they made reference to how their youth was intended to appeal to a new younger demographic. Then they spent a good chunk of the monologue acknowledging their elders: Hathaway had a conversation with her mother, who was in the audience, and Franco did the same with his grandmother. It is Oscar night on Sunday. I love movies and watch several a week but the Academy Awards are usually not much of an event to me. I tend to like the movies that do not get nominated for anything and have usually never seen or heard of the movies or performances that are up for the honors. This year I saw more nominated performances than I ever have so I am actually interested in the show.

This Year's Biggest Oscar Underdogs

While the press always thinks they know who the Academy Award winners will be, an underdog or two usually manages to snatch a statuette away from the favorite. Just last year, little-seen indie film "The Hurt Locker" upset James Cameron's blockbuster "Avatar" for Best Film.

In 2002, 29-year-old Adrien Brody upset Oscar perennials Jack Nicholson and Daniel Day-Lewis to win Best Actor. Marisa Tomei's win in 1992 was so unexpected, a rumor spread that presenter Jack Palance announced the wrong name.

Who will be the biggest surprise winner this year? Here are five of the biggest underdogs in their categories. Any one of has the potential to make Oscar upset history on February 28th.
