Weekend Box Office: ‘Contagion’ Takes Top Spot from ‘The Help’

It took a global epidemic to do it, but ‘The Help’ has finally been knocked out of the number one spot at the box office after three weeks at the top of the list.

The Steven Soderbergh-directed ‘Contagion,’ about a deadly and fast-spreading disease and the panic it causes, earned $23.1 million at theaters in its first week of release, relegating ‘The Help’ to a runner-up status. The mixed-martial arts action flick, ‘Warrior,’ came in third during its debut week, with ‘The Debt’ and ‘Columbiana’ rounding out the top five.

New Movie Releases: ‘Final Destination 5,’ ‘The Help’ and More [VIDEOS]

In what has ironically turned out to be the franchise that just won’t die, ‘Final Destination 5′ opens in theaters Friday, promising more gore, more violence and, yes, more death.

If you’re sick of the franchise, or if you just prefer something lighter, there are two comedies brand-new to choose from this weekend. One is the R-Rated ’30 Minutes or Less,’ which re-teams Oscar-nominated actor Jesse Eisenberg (‘The Social Network’) with his ‘Zombieland’ director, Ruben Fleischer, in this flick about a bank robbery gone horribly wrong.

Or, if you’re feeling a bit more musically inclined, there’s always ‘Glee Live! 3-D!’, the latest incarnation from Fox’s uber-successful TV series.

New Movie Releases: ‘Scream 4,’ ‘Rio,’ ‘The Conspirator’ [VIDEOS]

A couple of big movie openings this weekend and one I just really heard about -from Robert Redford! Let's go see one this weekend- maybe over at the Metrolux14!

There's a lot of variety and almost something for everyone. It's hard to say which film will take the top spot at the box office, as the popular 'Scream' franchise returns with its fourth installment against the animated feature 'Rio,' which looks like it could appeal to kids and adults. Also opening: the Robert Redford-directed historical drama 'The Conspirator.'

If you're feeling bummed about your taxes, these are some nice movie choices to keep you distracted. Take a look at their trailers, as well as some other films that are still in theaters, after the jump.

Nutritional Information And The Movies?

The thought of my popcorn having a nutritional label opens up so many issues I have concerning the weight of our nation. Where has the accountability gone? I have tolerated warning labels on a hot cup of coffee telling me its hot and have even embraced the 100 calorie snack packs for my kids, but nutritional labels now on my movie snacks?

A Rambling Woman: D Dennison

I have just spent the last twenty minutes entertaining myself with the latest news that Google news  had to offer. I must admit that I got frustrated at the news in Libya, was slightly interested in space shuttle  Discovery, scowled at the screen when I read about jobs being cut in northern Colorado and then wrapped my brain around Charlie Sheen, What?

Brian Faces Off With Facebook

Without a doubt the biggest cultural phenomenon in the last decade has been Facebook. You cannot escape it, it is now ingrained in to our social fabric. There are 650 million users on Facebook giving you all the useless information you need to get through the day like "I hate Wednesdays" or "My boss just doesn't get it". I am not sure when we decided that the world is interested in our every thought and deed but the world is much smaller these days and apparently we like to share everything about ourselves. According to BusinessInsider.com there are only 10 things more popular than Facebook.
