Wildfire Buring Near Estes Park In Rocky Mountain National Park (Fern Lake Fire)

A new wildfire is spewing smoke in Rocky Mountain National Park, near Estes Park, Colorado. According to the Coloradoan, air support was called to help contain the fire this afternoon.

At 6pm, Rocky Mountain National Park tweeted that the fire has grown to over 300 acres and is heading north toward the Ute trail.

Over the weekend my wife and I camped at Larimer County's Hermit Park Open Space in the Granite Gulch Campground. What a beautiful area! About 15 years ago we had camped at Hermit Park with a few friends who worked at Hewlett Packard. Since then HP has sold the land to Larimer County. It is a true jewel of Northern Colorado.

Woodland Heights Fire 75% Contained [UPDATED 9:41am]

The Woodland Heights Fire that started yesterday morning in Estes Park has burned approximately 20 acres and destroyed 20 homes; and is now being reported as 75% contained. The fire is burning near the Beaver Meadows Entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park, but has not moved inside park boundaries.

I didn't have the heart to tell him that I lived just a little over an hour away.
