Zimbabwean boarding schools have banned certain types of breakfast cereals after learning students were using it to make alcohol.

The Chronicle in Zimbabwe reports parents were informed of the brands of cereal and oatmeal that kids can use to make beer.

The local newspaper also learned from a chemist that cereals can be mixed with sugar and yeast to create the mixture, and that the alcohol content cannot be controlled in the brewing process.

This rising trend has been linked by some law enforcement and school officials to "Vuzu parties," which are described as "intoxicated sex marathons" that can also involve other substances like marijuana and cough syrup. More than a dozen students have been arrested for participating in such parties.
