A grass fire started burning west of Fort Collins today. The Stratton Fire is located about one mile south of the Poudre River and just east of Young Gulch Trail. The Stratton Fire is estimated to be about 1.8 acres according to the Fort Collins Coloradoan.

Approximately 35 firefighters from the U.S. Forest Service and Larimer County Emergency Services are on scene. A helicopter is making water drops and a Single Engine Air Tanker dropped one load of retardant and then was released.

The Forest Service said firefighters are making good progress on line construction around the fire. No structures are threatened and the cause is under investigation.

Reghan Cloudman, with the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National Grassland said in a statement:

It is estimated at 80% contained with full containment expected at 9 p.m. tonight.
